Mobile Payments: eCommerce Made Easy
By Jeremy B Thompson

As technology becomes increasingly mobile and convenient, payments for a huge array of services are consequently experiencing a gradual, but monumental shift to the mobile phone. European companies are therefore adding the option of mobile payments as to attract new, technologically-savvy customers. As more children are born into this digital era, companies around the world likely will slowly shift all payment options to mobile, as that method is becoming the most popular way to pay.

Big businesses around Europe are integrating mobile payments as a way customers can reimburse these companies for the goods and services they provide. Paying via a cellphone or other mobile device has an enormous amount of benefits over conventional methods of payment. This, combined with the popularity of mobile technology, has led to the exponential expansion and prevalence of these payment methods.

Europe is well-known for its environmental consciousness, and paying with a mobile phone or other device eliminates the need for paper receipts. It also eliminates the need to drive to a store, using gas and emitting harmful fumes. The amounts of paper used and exhaust released by paying via a mobile device may seem negligible, but when an entire society converts to this new method of payment, the results will prove a significant change.

The popularity of mobile technology and its many innovations has also given rise to the availability of mobile payment methods. It is blatantly obvious by watching just a few minutes of television or observing passersby how ingrained mobility is. PDAs, BlackBerrys, cellphones and iPods are just a few of the vast amount of devices that have mobile capabilities, including payment methods.

Businesses all over Europe are beginning to implement just such payment methods. Research shows that German, British, French, Spanish, Italian and Swiss companies have already made mobile payments possible through a huge array of devices. The countries of Europe are not the only nations utilizing this new type of payment, as Asian countries, North America and Australia also have begun implementing mobile payment methods.

Because of the many benefits offered by paperless electronic payment methods, every business will probably eventually offer this form of reimbursement to their customers. Not only is mobile payment easier and faster, but it also places less strain upon the environment and perpetuates the expansion of mobile technology. Mobile payment methods are the way of the future, and society probably will experience a complete dissipation of other methods of reimbursement.
